Call out - Flooding

We were called out by Bolton Mountain Rescue Team to assist them with the immediate evacuation of properties in Prestolee. Upon arrival Bolton Members had already evacuated all of the occupants (and pets) of the the affected properties and we assisted in planning for the evening as further heavy rain was predicted.

At 16:20 we were called to Bury to assist near the site of a gas explosion but after a short time were redeployed to Lower Broughton in Salford to assist with reports of flooding after the river Irwell burst its banks.

Ten Swift Water Rescue, seven Flood First Responders and two members who coordinated logistics and equipment joined a multi agency response in Salford. We worked alongside numerous Mountain Rescue Teams and the emergency services evacuating members of the public from their homes with our rescue raft and boat.

The teamwork of all of the voluntary teams and the emergency services was excellent but the most impressive aspect was the resilience of members of the public who not only rallied to support each other but even brought teams hot drinks and sandwiches.

All teams stood down at 22:30.
