Friday 9 December: Uniformed services course visit from X-factor celebrity

Pupils on the uniformed services course at Litherland High School in Liverpool had to double look Search and Rescue volunteer Rick Lane as he walked in to their classroom to present on the work of Cheshire Search And Rescue Team, Rick or Barry Garlow as he is now known to his team colleagues bares a striking similarity to the Take That front man. Once the giggling and hysteria had settled Rick and fellow volunteer Rachael Smith went through a lively talk and demonstration of the team’s work and equipment used during a rescue. The Team would like to thank Andy Smith, the Uniformed Services course lead who meet the team at this years VPX youth engagement event in Warrington for the invite to talk to the students. The Uniform Services course is a great start for young people wishing to apply for Jobs in the Fire, Police or Military Services, we wish them all the best in their future careers.

Thursday 8 December: Alternative Learning Experience

Today team members , Donna Marie Onions , Simon and Rick Lane and Dave McClure along with our trusty Land Rover “Kate” travelled to Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School to take part in an innovative alternative learning experience. At the request Of Mike Henshall , Special Programme Coordinator we attended to assist pupils from years 8,9 & 10, who were spending a week away from their normal studies learning about “Disasters’, Emergencies and Rescuers”. Monday 5 December: Mobile phone GPS testing successful

Whilst providing medical cover at a memorial service in Chester yesterday, we took the opportunity to test out GPS software on member’s mobile phones which feeds back information to a computer in the Incident Control Vehicle. Using MR Mapping software, the computer screen displays GPS locations and tracking for each individual member on a map. More...

We would like to thank Cheshire Police for the course on crime scene protection this weekend. Two of Cheshire's Police Search Advisers (POLSAs) - Neil Clegg and Ian Forbes along with John Skillen, crime scene manager - ran a course on Saturday for party leaders and took part in a full day’s search exercise and crime scene preservation on the Sunday with the whole team. Our control unit which is the hub of all search and rescue operations was condemned over a fortnight ago. We have a unique opportunity and a lifeline has been thrown to us by a surrounding Mountain Rescue team to purchase their land rovers. Tuesday 8 March: Team give talk to Moulton Beavers

Two team members gave a talk to Moulton Beavers this evening. About 25 beavers listened to the team explain the role of a search and rescue team and the different search techniques used. The beavers then had a look at some of the equipment we use and learnt about the importance of personnel safety whilst out on a search.
