Tuesday 25 December: Call out

Today at 08:30 we were called out to assist our friends and colleagues from North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR) to search for a missing 43 year old male. Members of NEWSAR had been out searching since 01:00 and they located the male at 11:00 this morning and arranged for him to be safely transferred to hospital. NEWSAR and our responding team members were stood down and returned to their respective families.

Friday 8 June: John Lawton update

Our week began with working closely with the Lawton family trying to establish grid references for all the energy gel sachets the teams in Greece located and trying to ensure that information such as batch numbers and expiry dates had been documented. The sad news is the gel sachets have since been put together in one evidence bag which is now casting a doubt as to if the samples have been cross-contaminated. Furthermore, the turmoil for the Lawton family doesn't end there. John Lawton's son, Steve has returned to Greece in the hope for DNA results only to establish that they haven't moved from the police station. More...

We found several Energy Gel packets that were the same brand that John used and identified areas that hadn’t been searched but despite these successes we didn’t find John or any of his personal effects. The search for missing Marathon runner and family man John Lawton who went missing ago 5 weeks ago last Sunday continues today with Cheshire Search & Rescue Team who flew out last Friday. The team yesterday searched the base of Vyros Valley which is a dried up river bed. The team encountered a 20 minute mass rockfall within the search area but no one was hurt. They located items such as energy gels which runners carry and also foil blankets within the dense vegetation of the valley area. More...

Cheshire Search and Rescue Team are a charity with a dedicated team of volunteers, it costs about £50 a day to run the charity but needs a further £20,000 a year to update and improve essential equipment. To raise the money required the team members who spend hours of their time in search efforts also have to spend hours at fundraising events such as local fetes, giving talks to local groups, attending community days and bag packing in supermarkets.
